Best of the Net 2019 Nomination!

Wednesday I found out I was nominated for Best of the Net 2019, for my Summer in a Bottle essay published in the Linden Avenue Literary Journal. Honestly I had never heard of Best of the Net, but after a little research discovered that it’s been around since 2006.

Winners will be published in the Best of the Net anthology from Sundress Publications. In their words, this project is to “…promote the diverse and growing collection of voices who are publishing their work online, a venue that continues to see less respect from such yearly anthologies as the Pushcart and Best American series. This anthology serves to bring greater respect to an innovative and continually expanding medium in the same medium in which it is published. ”

My biggest joy outside of the nomination is the fact that Hanif Abdurraqib will be judging the Creative Non-fiction category. I just became familiar with his work last year, and most recently read his book “Go Ahead in the Rain,” a love letter to Tribe Called Quest, which blew me away. To know that a writer whose work I admire will read my words is truly a gift.

Sending my congratulations to my fellow Linden Avenue Literary Journal nominees, and all the other writers out there whose work is being considered. It might sound corny, but it’s real, it’s truly an honored just to be nominated.
