Ready to Vote? How to stand in line at the polls

Image @globeatmica Ok, so tomorrow is Election Day. The mid-terms are here. Political ads are polluting our TVs and littering our mailboxes. We are tired of it all, but we can't succumb to that. We've gotta get out there and vote. I voted last week and it's because of my standing on line for two …

Champagne Tastes, Kool-Aid Money

Need to do the hair, need to do a pedi, have no energy for either because my budget requires I do it myself (boo!) Need to go shopping for some cool sneakers, need to take advantage of tax-free week in Maryland and buy some work clothes…buuuut it’s highly unlikely it will happen because I’m one …

This is unacceptable. Thank you to @mochach1na for your posts because that’s how I first became aware of this uptick in violence against Asian folks. Thank you to @thedwmckinney for sharing @blackliturgies post which I’ve reposted here. Thank you to @blackliturgies for finding the words & sharing them w/ us.
Good morning ☀️ Hope y’all have a good day✌🏾 & 💜
Snow day ❄️
R.I.P. to Cicely Tyson who has been a part of the culture from my earliest days. From seeing her in Roots, to countless movies in between. More recently I enjoyed her as Analise Keating’s mother on How to Get Away w/ Murder & her role in Ava Duvernay’s Cherish the Day. I think I actually believed she’d be in the physical plane forever. Earlier today I was reminding myself to order her book. So thankful I got to share this earth w/ her. 💜 Photograph by Mamadi Doumbouya.

This here is Thelma Jefferson, my paternal grandmother, holding & soothing lil’ ol’ me. She been on my mind strong. She passed less than 6 months after I graduated from college & I miss her so much. I couldn’t wait to get to know her as a woman, but that never really happened. One strong memory I have is when I was 21 she was driving me to the train station in Aberdeen to take the Amtrak to New York to prepare for our week of activities before graduation. I didn’t know she had cancer at the time. As she pulled up to the train station & I went to hop out, all pumped off youthful excitement for the partying that would happen once I reached NY, she stopped me & said, “Don’t be a vain woman.” I remember wondering why she said that, & also that years before she told me she had been vain. She held my gaze & everything slowed down for just a moment. Then it was me jumping out the car, grabbing my bag, & waving goodbye. I didn’t know she would be gone less than six months later. I’m glad we got to talk, that she never judged me despite some of the b.s. I ended up in, & that we got to watch Miami Vice & the Golden Girls together . We also shared a few white wine spritzers. 💜 #tbt Pic 1: Me & Her pic 2: Her in the Havre de Grace Consolidated (?) or Middle School year book. Saw this at the HdG Colored School exhibit
